Entrepreneurship of any form and manner Is a direction taken towards community upliftment. While It might sound unfamiliar to the idea of individualistic growth, it does define leadership and organizational development and that for us at Hindustan Power formed the basis of all our endeavors at Anuppur, Madhya Pradesh.
A picturesque town in north eastern part of Madhya Pradesh, Anuppur is located at a height of 505 mtrs (avg). The Son river and its tributaries pass through the bends and cuts across the region and the major source of livelihood for a population of 749,521 comes from agriculture. The most interesting fact though, about our associations at Anuppur has been the fostering trust around our initiatives amongst the tribal community.
Hindustan Power CSR started its operations in Anuppur with a vision to assert people’s right to positive social change that enables and empowers communities. Whether resource management or upliftment of the most marginalized in the community, our understanding of the fact that the world is increasingly interconnected and interdependent made us focus on building relationships that would enable community growth in Anuppur.
In the last 7 years of us operating in the area, we have received incredible support from the Gram Mitras, Swasthya Mitras and self – help group (SHGs). It has also been overwhelming to see the tangible shift in the way new ways and methodologies of livelihood have been accepted by the local communities unlike the times before. Correspondingly, the trickle-down effect of this belief system has changed the mindset of the people of Anuppur. Today, 50% of the entire cadre of local people who help us with need assessments are women. The Self-Help Groups are operating with a snowball mindset rather than just playing through the rulebook.
Whether livelihood, health and education, it is immensely satisfying to see that Anuppur is not only progressing with the support system provided through the many programs of Hindustan Power CSR but is also now thriving on its own thought system. We are a corporate that believes in interacting with the environment in a responsible manner and proactively engaging with its stakeholders can lead to sustainability and growth at multiple levels.
