As we know, the ups and downs of life also have one meaning, that is, community development — this is what took me in getting engaged with business. We all know life is not about self progression alone, it encompasses being able to build and lead teams and more, and for us as told by Hindustan Power formed the essence of all activities we undertook at Anuppur, Madhya Pradesh as well.
Anuppur, a small town in the north-eastern area of Madhya Pradesh, is surrounded by the Son river and its tributaries, and has an average altitude of 505 meters above sea level. A population of 749,521 people primarily relies on farming as their primary source of income. However, one of the most fascinating aspects of our work together in Anuppur has been the growing confidence that has been built around our work with the tribal populace.
Hindustan Power CSR began its activities in Anuppur with the aim of upholding people’s right to initiate a constructive change in the society that would help the communities. With regard to the communities and Eleanor Ostrom’s theory of resource management, we expected that people in Anuppur would help us achieve that goal considering the fact that the world is becoming global and unified offering interdependencies.
Nonetheless, the initiatives themselves contribute somewhat to auguring the Anuppur district overall. We have also noticed over the last seven years the position, the geographical focus and the objectives behind these sub programs seem to make a substantive impact in the area. As one of the pillars of this program, the,o in future, transcend the need for support packages in the back-drop of an enlarged focus for the Anuppur people, coloring each area of activities, business, and education, annealing self-help groups and institutions, and women especially. This transition within the Anuppur community also reinforces women empowerment leading to a paradigm shift in growth mentality in the area.
By treating the communities as an asset rather than target beneficiaries, we have witnessed the profound impact our interventions have made. Having been part of the historical heritage of Anuppur, the best of us would start carrying the Anuppur-District style moving further away from the trap of helplessness, self dependency reaching self-respect and determination to help millions rise.
